CONFERENCE SUBMISSIONS

INTRODUCTION

As well as the main theme of the conference, there are 7 HEIRNET conference themes (and sub-themes) which have been submitted by delegates over the last 20 years. These are:

  1. Public History & Citizenship
  2. Historical Culture & Identity
  3. Thinking Historically, Historical Knowledge & Learning
  4. Pedagogy/Didactics: Teaching, Learning And Assessment
  5. Teacher Training And Professional Development
  6. Researching History Education – Approaches, Methods And Methodologies
  7. Delegate- Proposed Themes or Workshops

SUBMISSION TYPES

  • Individual papers: 15-minute presentations followed by discussion
  • Symposia and Panels: Groups of minimum 4 papers centred on a common theme (90 minutes)
  • Workshops: Interactive sessions showcasing teaching strategies or tools (45 minutes)

ABSTRACTS

All presentations must be proposed using an abstract as the conference programme is based upon these. Abstracts should either (a) relate to a conference themes or (b) propose a theme of the delegates choice. Please note that submission of an abstract does not guarantee acceptance – the organising committee will review and approve all abstracts. We will respond to submissions and their abstracts within two weeks of receipt, either with an acceptance or rejection. On HEIRNET’s acceptance of your submission for a presentation at the conference you can register immediately by clicking on the Register button.

ABSTRACT DETAILS

The conference programme is based upon delegates’ submission of their presentation abstracts chosen from the conference’s main theme or the HEIRNET 7 themes (see below for a comprehensive list). We will respond to submissions and their abstracts within two weeks of receipt either with an acceptance or rejection. On HEIRNET’s acceptance of your submission for a presentation at the conference you can register immediately.

Submission abstracts should include:

  1. Full name: Forename[s] and Surname
  2. Affiliation
  3. Postal address, State/Province/County/Country
  4. Email Address
  5. Co Presenters (if any)
  6. Conference Theme and Topic
  7. Type of session
  8. Title of proposed presentation
  9. Keywords: up to ten key words
  10. Abstract of between 200 and 300 words

Please include in the abstract:

  • The main points in the argument
  • A brief outline of the research methodology (if necessary)
  • A brief summary of the presentation’s evidential basis
  • Conclusion
  • References: up to three references

THEME 7: DELEGATE_PROPOSED THEMES OR WORKSHOPS

25. A delegate or group of delegates can present a 45 or 90-minute session on a topic of their own choice. The chair and presenters organise and manage the strand as they wish.
